MAP YOUTH PROGRAMMING
ENGAGING and EMPOWERING OUR FUTURE
Our youth are our future. Investing in young people is an investment in the health and wellbeing of the community. The more interconnected a community is, the less likely it will be that individual members - and the entire community - will experience or perpetrate violence. In order to create safer communities, it is critical that adults invest time and resources into increasing youths’ sense of connection, identity, and purpose to community, helping them to recognize the ways they can put into practice the core values of Inherent Dignity and Belonging, Wholeness, Collective Care, and Responsibility to Others.
BEST (BE EQUAL SAFE & TRUSTWORTHY) PROGRAM FOR YOUTH
BEST (Be Equal Safe and Trustworthy), MAP’s innovative program for youth integrates evidence-based primary prevention strategies, best practices in youth development, and principles of restorative justice to help students in grades 2-12 identify their gifts, build skills and resiliency, and gain strategies for shaping their environments, resolving interpersonal conflict, and successfully transitioning to their next phase of life.
BEST is an adaptable framework that incorporates art, play, literature, storytelling, and dialogue to provide age-appropriate activities to grow student knowledge, ability, and confidence. Every student, every school, campus, and neighborhood, is different. The way gender-based violence shows up also varies from community to community. MAP works with each school partner to develop a program plan that meets the specific needs and learning goals of each school and community, including:
Story Circles
After-School Programming
Art Programming
In-School Programming
Field Trips
On-Site Office Hours
Staff Training and Technical Assistance
